I'm not going to do a full race report because it would just be redundant. I would add that it was great to have 4 guys in the cat 3/4. Paul raced the Cat 5's and could have killed it except he got played like a fiddle.
Most of the race was just staying out of trouble.
Second to last lap I got in good position. Got pinched out about 1/3 into the last lap fell into the middle of the pack, accelerated in the back straight, squeeked past on an inside corner. Loaded up for the last corner, had to bleed some speed to avoid another guy and then it was a wall of guys nose to nose sprinting for the line. Got 9th, 7th in the bunch sprint. I think we all had the same time.

*I'd agree with Mike that the pack did nothing to bring in the escapee's. We definately could have done something together as RN. We had 4 big guys in the ideal format for some power. We should do some work together during the smack down, pacelines, bringing in breaks, setting up sprints.

That's pretty much my opinion of the race as well. Except I was badly placed before the first big climb and clawed my way up to the front group. But I lost more on the descent than you did, because I still haven't learned how to descend. I was tracking the leading group pretty well for the first half of the finishing climb, but then they eased away from me. got in with a decent chase group on the back side, including Marcus who had made an amazing recovery from his crash, but lost their wheels again on the descent. And then my legs were cooked on the final climb. And to add insult to injury, I had to sprint for, and lost on the line to Greve who made an impressive charge up the final climb.

Neat blog and good report. I rode with you for a while near the end I believe. I too saw the guy in the stars and stripes jersey. I watched him from a ways back. He was going like mad there for a while til he unclipped. I thought the race was very nice. It was the first time I'd done it. The road seemed to feature numerous lower grade rises interspersed with steep sections. Good luck on Ascutney, I'll be there too.

And here's the update from Naveen:

"Hey guys, thanks for the concern. I went to the hospital to get an xray, and nothing is broken...just a few bruises and a sprained hip joint. I should be back in the saddle in a week or so. I'm not so sure about the dog though! I guess the good thing is, I get a new bike."

IIRC she was the head nurse in the Trama ward at the State Prison. Not just an EMT.

And I don't think there was much doubt that it was lucky to have happened in front of her house.
